Ook in Tel Aviv worden op grote schaal handwapens aangeschaft door particulieren. In de hoofdstad van Israël waarmee Amsterdam op het punt staat een samenwerking aan te gaan, staan mensen in de rij voor de winkel L.H.B. Haaretz schrijft dit toe aan de angst voor de ‘terror wave’ van de kant van de Palestijnen: Israelis Line Up to Buy Guns as Terror Wave Continues. After government eases rules for acquiring a gun license, more and more civilians are opting to arm themselves. De kopers staan in de rij: Not even the scores of sales people, along with the co-owners, were enough to handle the long line of customers that formed at the L.H.B. gun and ammunition store in Tel Aviv on Sunday. Last week, too, it was mission-almost-impossible to place a call to L.H.B or any other Israeli gun store.
Om een wapen te kunnen kopen is een vergunning van de Israëlische overheid nodig. Dat maakt het niet waarschijnlijk dat ook veel Israëlische Palestijnen in de rij zullen staan.

Franse ambassadeur krijgt uitbrander

De Franse ambassadeur in Israël heeft vandaag van het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken scherpe kritiek gekregen op het voorstel van Parijs om internationale waarnemers te stationeren op het Al Aqsa complex (Tempelberg). De ambassadeur meldde dat het ‘scherpe’ onderhoud betrekking had op de Frans-Israëlische relatie in het algemeen, hetgeen de kritiek des te scherp maakt. Beide zijden kwamen niet tot elkaar: ‘Israel is opposed to all moves that affect its vital interests that are not coordinated with it and are drawn up without its involvement.’ According to the spokesman, Maisonnave said France was considering different ideas in light of what he described as the “continued stalemate in the peace process.
De Amerikaanse minister John Kerry, die het Franse voorstel al eerder had afgewezen, uitte meer begrip voor Israëls stelling dat dat land juist de status quo op de Al Aqsa garandeert. Duitsland zeer bezorgd over geweld ‘van beide kanten’

Het ‘both sides’ correspondeert met de Franse positie die, iets minder aarzelend dan de Amerikaanse regering, meer evenwicht probeert te zoeken ten opzichte van de routinematige veroordelingen van Palestijns geweld in het verleden.
Woensdag spreekt Netanyahoe met Merkel in Berlijn. In een overleg met John Kerry zal hij volgens de Jeruzalem Post, seek an explicit statement from Washington supporting Israel’s position that it is preserving the status quo on Temple Mount and throughout Jerusalem’s Old City. Thus far, the Obama administration has been reluctant to issue such a declaration.

Palestijnse wijken in bezet Oost-Jeruzalem worden in toenemende mate door checkpoints afgesloten van de buitenwereld. Rond de Palestijnse wijk Jabal al-Mukabbir wordt nu een scheidingsmuur opgericht die de joodse nederzetting Armon Hanatziv vrijwaart van contacten met Palestijnen: Witnesses told Ma’an that Israeli forces helped unload huge concrete blocks in the neighborhood, including the notorious T-shaped blocks used in Israel’s illegal separation wall that surrounds and cuts through the occupied West Bank. Most of the concrete blocks are two meters high, witnesses, and were set up in streets near the illegal Israeli settlement of Armon Hanatziv, also known as East Talpiot. Residents of Jabal al-Mukabbir told Ma’an that four days earlier, on Wednesday, Israeli forces closed all routes to the neighborhood with cement blocks and set up a checkpoint at the main entrance.

Eerste dode door nieuw checkpoint in Jeruzalem
Maan News meldt vandaag een dode als gevolg van te lang moeten wachten bij een checkpoint in Oost-Jeruzalem: Huda Muhammad Darwish, 65, and her family were delayed from reaching the hospital after she suffered breathing difficulties following clashes in which tear gas was fired in the neighborhood, a local committee said. Her family tried to rush her to hospital, but Israeli troops ignored that there was a sick person in the car and delayed them at the checkpoint.
