Eenzaam rond Netanyahoe: Obama wenst hem succes, Abbas wil afstand nemen, Michele Bachman wil hem bekeren
VS: 1e stap naar opgeven tweestaten oplossing?
De Palestijnse Autoriteit (PA) heeft zijn teleurstelling uitgesproken over de verklaringen die de VS de laatste dagen hebben afgelegd over het vredesproces. Deze verklaringen waren, “discouraging in light of the Israel’s ongoing policy of arrests and shootings without a valid reason.” De Midden-Oosten gezant van het Witte Huis verklaarde: “This is really the first time since the first term of the Clinton administration where we have an administration that faces a reality where the prospect of a negotiated two-state solution is not in the cards … in the time that’s remaining.”

VS laten Israëlische premier nog even bungelen: morgen gesprek
Het Witte Huis laat de media en Israël nog in onzekerheid over de toezeggingen die president Obama morgen zal doen op het punt van financiële steun voor het Israëlische leger: “There is no justification for an increased compensation package, especially in light of the Federal budget cuts and the current battle in Congress over the ‘wastage’ of the US government.” Hiermee speelt het Witte Huis in op de republikeinse kritiek dat de overheid “geld verspilt”.
Verder wordt in Washington herinnerd aan een uitspraak eerder dit jaar van de door Netanyahoe pas benoemde woordvoerder: “Obama’s attitude to Netanyahu’s speech is what modern anti-Semitism looks like in Western liberal countries.” Over minister John Kerry schreef hij: “After his tenure as secretary of state he is assured a prosperous career as a stand-up comic in one of the clubs of Kansas City, Mosul, or the Holot

Abbas: machteloos, maar zijn vertrek is de schrik van alle diplomaten
President Abbas van de PA heeft de Egyptische president gevraagd hem te steunen bij een besluit over de (veiligheids-) samenwerking met Israël. Abbas staat onder grote interne druk om die samenwerking te beëïndigen. Dezelfde vraag zou hij ook van plan zijn voor te leggen aan Jordanië en Saoedie-Arabië: ‘Abbas is also seeking the backing of Egypt and other Arab countries for any decision taken by the PA leadership to suspend security, political and economic ties with Israel. Abbas has come under intense pressure from many Palestinians, including top members of the PLO and Fatah, to cut off all ties with Israel and cancel the Oslo Accords in response to Israel’s “failure to meet its commitments toward the peace process”‘.
M. Bachman: “Jezus komt, joden hebben niet veel tijd meer”
De invloedrijke ‘evangelical’ en voormalige kandidaat voor het Amerikaanse presidentsschap Michele Bachman, heeft opgeroepen tot een grote inspanning om joden te bekeren tot het christendom. Zij ziet de huidige onrust in groot-Israël als een aanwijzing voor wederkomst van Christus. In het christelijk fundamentalisme betekent de wederkomst dat niet-christenen op dat moment alleen nog gered kunnen worden indien zij zich bekeren. Het is binnen evangelicale kringen, van waaruit veel steun komt voor de joodse staat, ongebruikelijk om dit hardop te zeggen. Maar, “we recognize the shortness of the hour” aldus mevrouw Bachman.
