Onderscheid leger – politie valt weg
Leger (Israel Defense Force, IDF) en politie zullen ‘geïntegreerd’ gaan opereren in Oost-Jeruzalem, volgens een patroon dat in de Westelijke Jordaanoever al gebruikelijk is in tegen Palestijnen gerichte acties. Voor Jeruzalem betekent dit een stap verder naar een militarisering in de strijd tegen de opstandige Palestijnse bevolking.
Haaretz vandaag: The Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday began the deployment of six companies in major cities (waarschijnlijk wordt bedoeld: de belangrijkste Palestijnse wijken van Jeruzalem en dorpen in de agglomeratie. JS) The measures were announced early on Wednesday, after the security cabinet decided to “impose a closure on, or to surround, centers of friction and incitement in Jerusalem, in accordance with security considerations,” the Prime Minister’s Office said. As part of the integration of forces, military police will work with the Israel Police in various cities, following a pattern previously used territories.

Oppositieleider Herzog: ‘Aggressieve oorlog tegen terreur’
Jitzhak Herzog, leider van de Arbeiderspartij en de partijcombinatie Zionistische Unie (Zionist Union), roept op tot ‘een aggressieve oorlog tegen terreur’. Daarmee worden de geweldsacties bedoeld door Palestijnse (voornamelijk jongeren) die zich blijven uitbreiden. Hij eist dat de regering de toegang tot het Al-Aqsa complex met de moslimheiligdommen afgrendeld en dat Palestijnse wijken in Jeruzalem worden afgesloten.

Nb: Herzog’s partij bezet het politieke midden en de linkerkant van de Israëlische politiek. Zijn uitlating is een indicatie van de mate van radicalisering van het joods-Israëlische publiek.

Afsluiting Palestijnse wijken
Met de eerder in Jaffadok aangekondigde afsluiting van Palestijnse wijken in de agglomeratie Jeruzalem is vandaag een begin gemaakt: Hours after receiving approval during an emergency Security Cabinet meeting, police on Wednesday morning began sealing off violent Arab neighborhoods in east Jerusalem. Reservisten van de grenspolitie opgeroepen
De Knesseth heeft vanmorgen ingestemd met een mobilisatie van reservisten van de Grenspolitie (Borderpolice), een sterk gemilitariseerde afdeling van de politie: Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Wednesday morning unanimously approved a request by the Ministry of Defense to call up 1,400 Border Police reservist officers.

Al Jazeera vraagt zich in een reportage af of het doden en verwonden van Palestijnen door leger en politie niet moet worden gerekend tot ‘buitengerechtelijk doden van mensen’. De censuur in Israël verhindert Israëlische media hierover schrijven: Israel has a gag order (censuur) on reporting or revealing details of its extrajudicial policy, but this hasn’t prevented foreign media from reporting on it. Marwan Bishara analiseert in Al Jazeera een belangrijk aspect van de groeiende kolonisatie van de Westelijke Jordaanoever: (…) it’s Israel’s own settlement expansion throughout historical Palestine that has shortened the distance between Palestinians and Israelis with each passing day, and in the process, making it tougher to separate the two peoples, and certainly far harder to police their fault-lines. … Make no mistake; from now on besieging Palestinians will translate into encircling Israelis. Een van de gevolgen is dat deze ontwikkeling het “apartheidskarakter” van het land versterkt: And as US Secretary of State John Kerry (and many others) warned last year, the failure to reach a two state solution leads to “Apartheid”.
