Jerusalem Post, Haaretz: Palestijnse opstand staat op uitbreken
Arrestatie van vijandelijke strijder
Zowel in Israël als in de bezette gebieden wordt steeds meer gesproken over een derde Palestijnse volksopstand (de ‘derde intifada’). Dit vindt zijn weerspiegeling in de media. In vervolg op Yedioth Ahronot schrijft Haaretz vandaag: (…) Israelis, and Palestinians, call the latest round of killings in Jerusalem and the West Bank an intifada.

Jerusalem Post wijdt een volledige analyse aan de bovenstaande vraag en komt tot de conclusie dat de situatie erg lijkt op die aan het beging van de tweede ‘intifada’, in 2000: What should we call the violence? Intifada? Not an intifada? Grassroots terror? Stone intifada? The sad truth is that the name doesn’t matter. What’s important is the reality, and no less important – the recognition of that reality. And the reality is that the West Bank and Jerusalem are burning. They have been burning for several months, even for as long as a year. De tweede conclusie van Jpost wordt in joods Israël breed gedeeld: The Palestinians are on a path to confrontation. There are already clear signs of an uprising. De analyse noemt tot slot de factoren die de status quo van de laatste twintig jaar (sinds ‘Oslo’) zullen veranderen: It’s clear that the status quo is dying, one way or the other. It may be a massive Palestinian uprising or the resignation of Abbas, or the Palestinian Authority (PA) dismantling itself, or announcing the canceling of the Oslo Accords, as Abbas has threatened, or all of these things together, at the same time.
PLO veroordeeld “collectieve straffen”
PLO’s Hanan Ashrawi veroordeeld het collectief straffen van Palestijnen: Senior PLO official Hanan Ashrawi on Sunday slammed the Israeli government for its “collective punishment” of Palestinians in the wake of two deadly attacks on Israelis. Zij voegt er een zware beschuldiging aan het adres van de Israëlische regering aan toe: Ashrawi said that settler and military violence was proof “that the Israeli government is deliberately creating a situation of violence and instability that threatens to spiral out of control.”

Leger en kolonisten vallen ambulances aan
Palestijnse Rode Kruis in actie
Het Palestijnse Rode Kruis luidt de alarmbel in verband met aanvallen door het leger en kolonisten op ambulances en medische hulpverleners: The society decried Israeli violations of international humanitarian law, saying that in a 72-hour period, it had faced 14 attacks against its staff and vehicles (…). The Palestine Red Crescent Society, which is a full member of the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, said that the incidents were “a blatant violation” of international humanitarian law. Het Palestijnse Rode Kruis voert ambulancediensten uit in opdracht van de Palestijnse Autoriteit, conform de Oslo Akkoorden.

Joodse organisaties in Duitsland ‘framen’ Syrische vluchtelingen
Na soortgelijke geluiden in Israël, de VS en Oostenrijk is nu ook Centrale Raad voor Joden in Duitsland overgegaan tot het collectief beschuldigen van Syrische vluchtelingen: Germany’s Jewish community head fears Muslim migrants’ anti-Semitism. (…) Josef Schuster, the president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, expressed fear about increased anti-Semitism due to the attitudes of Muslim migrants entering the country. “Many Syrians and Arab migrants grow up in an environment in which hostility to Jews and Israel is common practice”.
