Israël overweegt status Palestijnen Oost-Jeruzalem in te trekken
Israël overweegt om de ‘residency permits’ (verblijfsvergunningen) van de circa 250.000 Palestijnen van Oost-Jeruzalem in te trekken: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering revoking residency permits from Arabs living in east Jerusalem, according to sources in the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, which Netanyahu was addressing on Monday (26/10). De officiële reden zou zijn dat: Such a measure would be taken to deal with the recent spate of terror attacks that has left ten Israelis dead and dozens more wounded. Many of the attackers have hailed from east Jerusalem neighborhoods.
Nb: De vorm van deze discussie – twee weken geleden deed een gematigder voorstel de ronde – betekent in de Israëlische politieke traditie meestal de start van een geleidelijk toewerken naar een resultaat dat zich op strategisch niveau al heeft vastgezet als lange termijn doel: drie stappen vooruit, twee achteruit. Een besluit tot intrekken van de ‘permits’ zou een majeure stap zijn op weg naar een zuivering van Jeruzalem van niet-joden. Voorlopig zullen de politieke kosten te hoog zijn. Maar het idee ‘is here to stay’.
Netanyahoe: Groot Israël ‘for the foreseeable future’
Netanyahoe heeft vandaag verklaard dat, alhoewel hij geen bi-nationale staat wil, Israël het gehele gebied (‘al of the territory’, van de zee tot de Jordaan, JS) zal moeten controleren: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that although he doesn’t want a binational state, “at this time we need to control all of the territory for the foreseeable future.
De Syrian Free Press overdrijft een beetje
NB: Deze uitspraak moet waarschijnlijk worden gezien als het voorbereiden van de eigen joodse bevolking op het permanent binnenvallen van de zogenaamde A-gebieden. Deze beperkte delen van de bezette Westoever worden volgens de Oslo Akkoorden bestuurd door de Palestijnse Autoriteit (PA). Door de Israëlische politiek sinds april 2014 wordt deze PA (die sinds 2005 aan de leiband van Israël loopt) steeds meer een lege huls. De door Netanyahoe gesuggereerde lijn komt neer op sluipende annexatie van bezet gebied zonder de negatieve buitenlandse reacties die formele annexatie zou oproepen.

Liberman preludeert op militaire escalatie in Libanon
De uiterst rechtse politicus en vorige minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Liberman, verwacht dat de Libanese Hezbollah zich weer actief tot Israël zal keren: Liberman estimated that world powers would make an agreement to end the war in Syria within a year, freeing up Hezbollah from the fighting it has been entrenched in defending the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad for the past four years. Hij roept de regering op om een plan te maken: (…) we will ask them to show us what they intend to do about it.

In de Engelstalige publicatie Israelnationalnews geeft rabbi Eliezer Melamed zijn mening over wat de regering zou moeten doen met de Israëlische Palestijnen: a the government changes the situation in which Israeli Arabs have rights without obligations b it denies the residency status of over 100,000 Arabs who infiltrated the State of Israel under the cover of the law of ‘Family Reunification’ c it encourages the emigration of those hostile to the State of Israel. De vaste columnist Giullio Meotti legt uit waarom Netanyahoe gelijk had met zijn stelling dat de holocaust toch een zaak was van de Palestijnen: Netanyahu indicated something unacceptable for historians, politicians and journalists: that the root of the Israel-Palestinian conflict is not the “occupation”, but the jihad, the holy war that has lasted for 90 years. Er was een taakverdeling tussen Hitler en de Palestijnen: Hitler was to do its job in eliminating the Jews of Europe, while the Palestinian Arabs would take care of the Jews in the Middle East. De verwijdering tussen het Israëlische en het Europese publiek wordt door Meotti onbedoeld aangegeven: That’s what Netanyahu told a deaf and hypocritical Europe. That the message that this ninety year old Intifada targeting the Israeli Jews is written in capital letters: we do not want to live together with you, we want to kill you, we want you out of here, we are intent on driving you into the Mediterranean. Israel is very lucky these days to have Benjamin Netanyahu, the last great Western leader.
