Joden buiten Israël gewaarschuwd: IDF is “holy entity”

Nadat vorige week de Israëlische regering en particuliere zionistische organisaties (met name Im Tirzu) kritische joods-Israëlische organisaties hadden aangevallen, doen nu ook drie invloedrijke Israëlische en Amerikaanse joden een duit in het zakje. Ook nu leidt het spoor naar de organisatie Breaking the Silence die Israëlische dienstplichtigen aan het woord laat over het optreden van het leger in de Westelijke Jordaanoever. De aanval staat in de Jerusalem Post van vandaag, in een opiniebijdrage van, George Birnbaum (ex stafchef van premier Netanyahoe), Hank Sheinkopf (o.a. voormalig adviseur van Bill Clinton) en Ronn Torossian (topman van een internationale pr-firma).

Breaking the Silence wordt beschuldigd van, ‘actions which undermine the safety and security of Israel and the Jewish people.’ En: ‘In May 2015, Breaking the Silence provided 57 testimonies against IDF soldiers for a report intended to prove that Israel not only used excessive force during the 2014 Operation Protective Edge, but callously targeted Palestinian women, children and noncombatants.’ De aanval richt zich concreet op Amerikaanse joden die via donaties aan het New Israel Fund kritische organisaties steunen: ‘These include organizations such as Breaking the Silence, B’Tselem, Yesh Din, the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel (PCATI), Gisha – Legal Center for Freedom of Movement, and Machsom Watch. When it comes to the State of Israel, however, the Israel Defense Forces must be a holy entity for our people.’
De vrees die doorschemert is dat deze organisaties de informatie die zij documenteren over oorlogsmisdaden die het leger in 2014 beging in de Gazastrook, laten gebruiken door landen die (zoals onlangs bijna Engeland) Israëlische militairen arresteren of door het Internationaal Strafhof.

Turkije stelt voorwaarde aan israël: toegang tot Gaza
De gesprekken tussen Turkije en Israël over verbetering van de relatie hebben nog niet tot overeenstemming geleid. Twee eisen van Turkije zijn vervuld; beide hebben betrekking op de afwikkeling van het conflict dat ontstond toen het Israëlische leger negen mensen doodschoot op het Gaza-hulpconvooi in 2010. De derde eis hangt nog boven de gesprekken: ‘From the very beginning of Israeli-Turkish negotiations, Turkey had insisted on three conditions and this position is still valid. Israel formally apologized to Turkey and is ready to pay the compensation as agreed. The last condition is the removal of the blockade on Gaza. Turkey’s condition from Israel is to get “unrestricted access” to Gaza for its all sorts of assistance to Palestinians. Turkey is determined to not accept any sort of restriction on Turkish assistance to Gaza.’
Volgens de Jerusalem Post van vandaag heeft Hamas twijfels of Turkije de rug recht houdt: ‘The official [van Hamas] expressed concern is that Turkey would accept an Israeli offer to ease restrictions imposed on the entry of construction material into the Gaza Strip instead of a full lifting of the blockade. Rai al-Youm said Hamas’s biggest fear, however, is that Turkey and Israel would resume their security and military cooperation, which will result in restricting Hamas activities in Turkey.’
Neemt Hezbollah wraak?
De moord op een commandant van Hezbollah in Syrië – waarvan de organisatie Israël beschuldigt – kan leiden tot een escalatie tussen Israël en Hezbollah in Libanon, indien Hezbollah wraak neemt. Europese diplomaten hebben gewaarschuwd voor verder gaande represailles van de kant van Israël: ‘International diplomats are working feverishly with Lebanese officials in an effort to prevent a revenge attack against Israel by Hezbollah following the killing of one of its top commanders in Damascus, Samir Kuntar, earlier this week, according to a report which appeared Saturday in the Kuwaiti daily Al Qabas. The report cites European sources as saying that “Lebanese officials are aware that the threats made by the Netanyahu government are very serious.’
Er wordt druk uitgeoefend op Hezbollah om van een represaille af te zien. Een aanval door Israël op (Zuid-)Libanon zou zeer destabiliserend werken op de regio Syrië-Libanon op een moment waarop ook de VS neigen tot een politieke oplossing voor de gevechten in Syrië.
