S.-G. VN: Israël oorzaak van ‘Palestijnse terreur’
Ban Ki-Moon, meestal onzichtbaar, veroorlooft zich kritiek op Israël
De Secretaris-Generaal van de VN Ban Ki-Moon, heeft in een opvallende verklaring Israël zelf verantwoordelijk gesteld voor ‘de Palestijnse terreur’: ‘It is the result of fear, humiliation, frustration and mistrust. It has been fed by the wounds of decades of bloody conflict, which will take a long time to heal. Palestinians youth in particular are tired of broken promises and they see no light at the end of the tunnel’. Ban Ki-Moon deed zijn uitspraak in Jakarta op een conferentie, ‘on the Rights of Palestinian people and the situation in Jerusalem.’
Andere uitspraken van Ban Ki-Moon, die gewoonlijk min of meer in de pas loopt met de Amerikaanse buitenlandse politiek: ‘Jerusalem, one of the oldest cities in the world, holds shrines sacred to billions of people worldwide – Muslims, Jews and Christians alike. What happens in Jerusalem reverberates around the world.’ Met betrekking tot de Al-Aqsa/Tempelberg liet hij een waarschuwend geluid aan Israël horen: ‘(…) any action which could be interpreted as attempting to change the delicate balance, and particularly the status quo of the holy sites, carries with it the risk of conflict.’ De conferentie was georganiseerd door de UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the Question of Jerusalem.
Organisaties voor mensenrechten onder vuur in Israël

Van verschillende kanten worden gisteren en vandaag kritische organisaties in Israël onder vuur genomen. Minister van Defensie Yaalon deelde mee, ‘that he had banned Israeli veteran group Breaking the Silence from participating in any official activities with Israeli forces‘. De regeringscampagne werd gestart op sociale media waar Yaalon beschuldigingen uit die feitelijk neerkomen op landverraad: ‘(Yaalon) called the left-wing veteran group hypocrites spreading “false propaganda” against Israeli forces and the state of Israel in attempt to “delegitimize” them.’
Breaking the Silence reageerde met de beschuldiging dat het om een georkestreerde campagne gaat vanuit verschillende hoeken: ‘(…) saying the group has been under attack for the past several months, “through a pre-meditated campaign, in which members of the extreme right-wing, including Israeli parliamentarians and elected officials, along with public figures and right-wing organizations, are trying to silence both us and every debate related to the 48-year-long occupation.’ Breaking the Silence is een groep ex-militairen van het Israëlische leger die informatie verstrekken over de gang van zaken in de bezette gebieden. De recente kortstondige arrestatie van een Israëlische militair in Londen wordt onder meer ‘geweten’ aan het werk van Breaking the Silence.

Eerder deze maand kwam in de Knesseth een wetsontwerp op de agenda dat ‘door het buitenland gestuurde organisaties’ in het vizier neemt: ‘Earlier this month, right-wing Knesset members from the Likud party proposed a bill that would limit foreign-backed NGOs from working within Israel. The purpose of the bill is reportedly an attempt to curb the influence of left-wing NGOs on Israeli policy and public opinion, both domestically and abroad.’ De fel-zionistische organisatie Im Tirtzu voert actie tegen vier leiders van organisaties voor mensenrechten. Liberman hervat actie tegen Haneen Zoabi
De oppositiepoliticus Liberman is op Facebook een campagne begonnen tegen het Israëlisch-Palestijnse parlementslid Haneen Zoabi: ‘Together we will kick the supporters of terrorists out of the Knesset‘. Hij wil dat zij voorgoed uit de Knesseth wordt geweerd (waarmee zij ook haar onschendbaarheid verliest). Acties tegen Zoabi zijn niet nieuw. Het meest fundamentele verwijt tegen haar is dat zij voor één staat is met gelijke rechten voor joden en niet-joden. Verder is zij mediageniek en weet zijn Europese en Amerikaanse fora te bereiken.
