Al-Aqsa campagne voorloper etnische zuivering Oost-Jeruzalem?

Uit haar verklaring: “For two consecutive days extremist Israelis, accompanied by the forces of occupation, have broken into the mosque compound to prevent the entry of Palestinian worshippers. Israeli authorities (…) instigated violent confrontations, using tear gas, stun grenades and rubber coated steel bullets, all of which has resulted in over one hundred people getting injured. The Israeli government is complicit in this ongoing aggravation. Ministers Moshe Ylon and Uri Ariel have both been present on the site in the past week, bringing with them more security personnel.”

Kabinetsbesluit geeft leger, politie ‘license to kill children’

“Israeli laws against stone throwers are a licence to kill them.” De directeur van het Jerusalem Centre for Israeli Studies Alaa Al-Rimawi, geeft in Middleeastmonitor toelichting op het kabinetsbesluit eerder deze week om de schietinstructie voor politie en leger in Oost-Jeruzalem drastisch te wijzigen: “Al-Rimawi explained that the decisions are very serious because they transfer the responsibility for shooting at demonstrators from the officer in charge to the Israeli soldier in the field, restrict Israeli judges’ mandate, raise the punishments against stone throwers and allow courts to issue huge fines to the parents of stone throwers and imprison them if they refused to pay. (…)

He stressed that the Palestinian Authority must take the Israeli decisions seriously especially as they come at a time when the Al-Aqsa Mosque is targeted.”

Arafeh: “The escalating clashes between Israeli settlers and Jerusalemite Palestinians are the harbingers (voorboden, JS) of a major eruption with incalculable consequences. Immediately billed as a “religious war” by the media and Israeli right wingers, they are in fact the outcome of longstanding Israeli plans to Judaize the city and empty it of its Palestinian inhabitants.”

The New Year began with a warning by the Mufti of Jerusalem of an Israeli organization’s plans to register Al-Aqsa Mosque as Israeli property. But can this really be described as the start of a religious war? (…) the framing of these events as a religious war not only ignores the reality of the power imbalance between the colonizer and the colonized, but also fails to address the history and context in which the recent events have unfolded. Palestinian clashes with Israeli Jews should be seen as acts of resistance and desperation within the larger historical struggle of Palestinians against occupation, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, land theft, dispossession, forced displacement, and economic marginalization.”

In de analyse krijgt ook het huidige Palestijnse leidersschap ervan langs: “Palestinian leadership should confront Israeli attempts to frame its colonial policies in religious terms and should remind the world that the core issues are those of occupation, dispossession, and land theft.”
