Abbas dreigt: “Oslo” loopt gevaar
Aan de vooravond van zijn toespraak voor de Algemene Vergadering van de VN volgende week, heeft de president van de Palestijnse Autoriteit (PA) Mahmoud Abbas de Israëlische premier gewaarschuwd voor ernstige consequenties als de huidige impasse voortduurt: “Palestinian president tells Israeli diplomats in Paris of secret message, says PA won’t continue to follow Oslo Accords to the letter if Netanyahu continues to ‘systematically violate’ it.” Vorige week had de PA laten weten dat Abbas voornemens was een “bombshell” in de VN te laten vallen ( (http://jaffadok.nl/de-bombshell-van-abbas-doet-hij-het/).

Grote Verzoendag lang geleden; minder militairen volgens het reliëf
Grote Verzoendag, de belangrijkste Israëlische feestdag gaat gepaard met een ongekend militair en politioneel vertoon in de bezette gebieden, inclusief Oost-Jeruzalem: “Thousands of police forces were deployed to high-tension areas Tuesday morning and troops were placed on high alert in preparation for Yom Kippur as Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon ordered the complete closure of the West Bank and Gaza to begin at noon until midnight Wednesday.”

Geloof in twee staten daalt verder
Het aantal Palestijnen dat tegen de twee staten oplossing is is gestegen tot meer dan 50%. Haaretz: “The poll by the Palestinian Centre for Policy and Survey Research, a leading research group in the Palestinian territories, found that 51 percent of Palestinians oppose the two-state solution while 48 percent support it.” Maan News brengt dezelfde cijfers en vult aan: “Moreover, 65 percent of Palestinians said that they no longer believe a two-state solution is a practical possibility due to the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements across the occupied Palestinian territory.”

Syrië centraal in ontmoetingen
Temidden van berichten dat er serieuze gesprekken zijn tussen de VS en Rusland over samenwerking dan wel afstemming van militaire operaties in Syrië, bezocht de Israëlische premier Moskou. The Guardian: “Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, has met the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, to discuss security concerns along Israel’s northern border and how to avoid accidental clashes between Israel and Russian forces supporting Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria. Netanyahu’s lightning visit to Moscow on Monday follows concern in Israel that the ongoing Russian military buildup will threaten its defence, through fears that Russian-supplied weapons will end up in the hands of Hezbollah, fighting in Syria on Assad’s side, and because it will make it more difficult for Israeli aircraft to strike there.”
Op de achtergrond speelt de Israëlische wens om zo min mogelijk gehinderd te worden bij zijn van tijd tot tijd plaatsvindende acties boven Syrië: “In recent months, Israeli jets have struck what sources have described as weapons supply facilities for Hezbollah and convoys, as well as personnel directing what it says has been a Hezbollah buildup close to Israel’s northern border.”
Jerusalem Post schrijft: “(…) the first time chiefs of staff from Russia and Israel held a direct meeting. (…) the two sides agreed to set up a joint working group led by the deputy chiefs of staff from each country. It will coordinate air, naval, and the electromagnetic arenas.”
Brazilië niet blij met Israëlische ambassadeur
Dilma Rousseff; al veel problemen, nu ook nog een kolonist
Als Israëlische ambassadeur in Brazilië is aangewezen Danny Danon, een voormalige kolonistenleider, voorzitter van de “Yesha Council”. Brazilië is “not amused” volgens The Guardian: “An Israeli newspaper (Yedioth Ahronot, JS) claims that president Dilma Rousseff has expressed her displeasure at Dani Dayan’s appointment via private channels. (…) more than 40 Brazilian social movements, including some of Rousseff’s supporters, have signed a petition calling on the government to reject Dayan’s appointment over his “acts in clear violation of international laws and the basic rights of the Palestinian people.” Over Dayan die in Buenos Airos is geboren, schreef de New York Times in 2012: “Dayan described the two-state solution as a “failed formula” and insisted that the presence of settlers in “all of Judea and Samaria – not just in the so-called settlement blocs – is an irreversible fact”. He currently lives in the settlement of Ma’ale Shomrom.”
Een groep van, “former (Israëlische, JS) senior ambassadors and left-wing activists” heeft de Braziliaanse regering opgeroepen om niet in te stemmen met Dayan als ambassadeur.
