Politieke druk op Netanyahoe: hardere actie
Prominente leden van de regeringspartij Joods Huis (‘Jewish Home’) vallen premier Netanyahoe aan op zijn aanpak van Palestijnse ‘terroristen’. Minister van Onderwijs en partijleider Naftali Bennett en minister van Justitie Ayelet Shaket nemen het voortouw, maar ook andere ministers uitten openlijk kritiek. Bennett, tasked the government with backing security forces in their fight against terrorists, the immediate building of a neighborhood or town in response to each terrorist attack, and the immediate re-arrest and return to jail of terrorists freed in the Shalit deal (Israel National News). Minister Shaket gebruikt de situatie om een kernpunt van haar partij weer op tafel te leggen: “He (Netanyahoe) believes in the two state solution, we think it’s a mistake. On the long term, we’re talking about annexing Area C. I’m not saying we should do it now, but it’s a plan that should be on the table.”
Nb: Vermoedelijk is het belangrijkste verschil tussen de premier en Joods Huis, dat de eerste in het praten over de kwesties ‘twee staten’ en ‘annexatie’ enigzins rekening moet houden met de relaties met de VS en de EU.

Geweld bezetting: wraakacties door kolonisten en gewapende macht
Jeruzalem 2015: Fadi Alloun, 19 jaar, opgejaagd door joodse jongeren, neergeschoten door aanwezige politie.
Het geweld tegen Palestijnse burgers door leger, politie en kolonisten is geïntensiveerd na de moord op twee joodse kolonisten enkele dagen geleden. In Oost-Jeruzalem werd een 19-jarige Palestijn die werd opgejaagd door joodse jongeren en hulp zocht bij de aanwezige politie, door een politieman doodgeschoten. De Israëlische lezing is dat hij een jood bedreigde met een mes. Fadi Samir Mustafa Alloun’s vader: “Videos from the scene show a group of settlers chasing my son and he was trying to run to an Israeli police patrol for protection.” Ook het verdere optreden van de autoriteiten wekt woede onder Palestijnen: The father added that Israeli police detained his son’s body without giving the family any details about how he was killed and where he was being detained. He said his family was only made aware of their son’s death from media outlets.

Al-Aqsa verder in greep leger en politie
Het leger (‘security forces’) versterkt zijn greep op het moslimheiligdom Al-Aqsa: Israeli forces stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and evicted dozens of Palestinians from its southern mosque on Saturday evening following a stabbing attack in East Jerusalem’s Old City that claimed two Israelis’ lives. Witnesses told Ma’an that dozens of Israeli police entered the compound after evening prayers and forcibly evicted up to 70 Palestinians from inside the southern mosque, some of whom were planning to spend the night there. Israeli forces were reported to have climbed on the mosque’s roof and caused damage to one of its minarets.

Israël verstevigd greep op Golan
Het uiteenvallen van het staatsgezag in Syrië en de zeer recente pogingen van Rusland om dat tij te keren, leiden volgens een analyse in de New York Times nu tot Israëlische actie in het bezette deel van de Syrische Golan Hoogvlakte. Doel: volledige opname van het gebied in de joodse staat. En, het wegnemen van de hoop onder de resterende niet-joodse bewoners (Druzen) dat het gebied ooit nog weer terugkeert naar Syrië. De regeringspartij Joods Huis is de belangrijkste promotor van dit beleid, dat brede steun geniet in de Israëlische publieke opinie en in de Knesseth.
De NYT: (…) the aggressive development goal — 100,000 new residents across the Golan in five years — being promoted by Naftali Bennett, a senior Israeli minister and one of many Israeli leaders and thinkers seizing on the chaos in Syria to solidify Israel’s hold on the Golan. With Syria “disintegrating” after years of civil war, they argue, it is hard to imagine a stable state to which the territory could be returned. Further, they say that international — or, at least, American — recognition of Israel’s 1981 annexation of the Golan would be an appropriate salve to Israeli security concerns in the wake of the nuclear deal with Iran. Some proponents of this push, who unlike Mr. Bennett support a two-state solution with the Palestinians, also see this international recognition as an important way to distinguish the status of Golan from the West Bank and Gaza Strip. “We’re in a whole new strategic situation, and a new strategic situation requires new strategic responses,” said Mr. Bennett, who promised to introduce a plan this fall involving “several hundreds of millions of shekels” to create jobs, housing, schools and transportation in the sprawling, green Golan Heights.
